A few years ago, I went to work for a CPA while I finished my Bachelor’s of Science in accounting. And here’s what I discovered:
Many businesses catch up their books at month or year end just to know how much to pay Uncle Sam.
But they’re missing out on the true benefit of bookkeeping.
When you know your revenue, your expenses, and your net profit, you put yourself in the driver’s seat of the business. You go from flying by the seat of your pants to feeling in control.
This powerful side of bookkeeping is what got me hooked.
So after working as a cost specialist at an engineering firm, I took the leap to start Own Your Books (based in Greenville, South Carolina).
Now, I help business owners make decisions by giving them up-to-date information. I recently saved a company almost $2k a month in expenses, just by letting them know what subscriptions they didn’t need anymore!
I get to be involved with tons of small businesses, and I’m loving it! (Sorry, McDonald’s – not trying to encroach.)
Let me know if you’d like to grab a coffee to talk about your bookkeeping! I love nerding out about bookkeeping and would love to hear about your challenges.
Cheers,
Ellie Cummins, Founder of Own Your Books
